August 2022 - Sprinkler System InstallationMeritorious devotees collected immense merits by sponsoring the installation of the new sprinkler system at the monastery. We rejoice in this great merit!
2022 - Donations Medical Emergency Fund and Seruwila Food Program in Sri LankaIn the face of the crisis facing Sri Lanka, the supply of medicines to hospitals has also become an extremely difficult task. As a result, many precious human lives are in peril and it has become imperative for all of us to come together and support the Sri Lankan Hospital System.
Generous devotees of the Buddha Meditation Centre of Mahamevnawa monastery-Toronto, have made donations towards the Medical Emergency Fund which is managed by the SAVE A BABY Organization in Sri Lanka. We gratefully inform you that so far USD 7500.89 has been deposited in the Save A Baby bank account. We share all the merit with our teacher, the most venerable Lokuswaminwahanse. On August 27th, the members of the Youth Dana collected immense merits by cooking a meal themselves and offering it to the Maha Sangha.

June 2022 - Tree Planting
On June 11th, meritorious devotees spent the day planting over 200 trees, collecting immense merit and creating a comfortable environment for others to practice the Dhamma.
June 2022 - Dhatu Vandana
On the weekend of June 25th and 26th, meritorious devotees were given the rare opportunity to collect immense merit by viewing and worship the relics of the Supreme Buddha, Arahant Sariputta, Arahant Moggallana, and Arahant Mittakala.
July 2022 - Inviting Monks for the Rainy Retreat
On July 10th, the meritorious devotees invited the venerable monks to spend the Rainy Retreat at the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery. They collected many merits by conducting a ceremony to offer robes.
July 2021 - Vassana Rains Retreat
Chandra Maniyo and her relatives have gathered to invite the Maha Sangha for the Vassana rains retreat in July 2021 as well as to offer the Kathina Robes at the end of the rains retreat. A lot of merits have been collected by both the Maha Sangha and the devotees who helped to take care of the monks through offering food and requisites throughout the season, as well as doing various projects and collecting vast amounts of merits such as the newly built Stupa House (Cheithya Ghara), Meditation/Worship hut, and a beautiful stream and fountain which brings more beauty to our monastery.
All these powerful merits we have collected, we share to our Pinwath Loku Swaminwahanse, all the monks and nuns of Mahamevnawa and around the world, all the Devas, Brahmas, with all of the devotees for everyone to realize the Four Noble Truths in this Gautama Buddha's Dispensation!

Devotees placed grass sods to complete the Stupa house project.
Summer 2021 - Flowers
We decorated the Supreme Buddha's monastery with beautiful flowers with our own hands in summer 2021.
Year of 2020 - Stupa Repair
The sacred stupa was repaired by the volunteers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The landscape around the stupa, pinnacle and the floor were repaired and maintained. Volunteers followed strict health guidelines enforced by the provincial authorities to ensure the safety and well being of everyone.
Year of 2020 - Pandemic Season
Devotees volunteered their time to clean and maintain the monastery (garden, lawn and surroundings) premises during the Covid-19 pandemic. They followed strict health guidelines enforced by the provincial authorities to ensure the safety and well being of everyone.

Katina Ceremony - 2019
Katina ceremony was held at the newly opened Buddha meditation hall of the monastery. Katina Robe was offered following the dana. Devotees paid homage to the Supreme Buddha with flower garlands and offerings. The ceremony concluded by chanting of protections to bless the devotees.
New Buddha Mansion - 2019
The Gautama Buddha Mansion and beautiful shrine at Mahamevnawa - Toronto. A unique piece of architecture and undoubtedly a historical milestone for the Theravada Buddhist community in Canada. It took 1 1/2 years to finish the construction, this meritorious project was completely funded by generous donors and devotees of our community, without conducting any external fundraising events. In addition to monetary donations, the congregation continued to help by contributing to their time, skills and knowledge to build it. Mahamevnawa - Toronto will continue to spread the teachings of the Buddha, an immense community service which has been ongoing for the past 13 years. We share merits with Pinwath Loku Swaminwahanse, all devas, all the bhantes, all the lay devotees, volunteers and the donors who helped to build the Dhamma Hall.

Our teacher, the most Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero also participated in the preparation activities prior to the opening. With the guidance of our most venerable teacher, we were able to complete an amazing Buddha Meditation Hall and rejoice the merit we were collecting.
Dana for Maha Sangha and Venerable Nanda Thero and Loku Swaminwahanse - 2019
Our teacher, the most Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero, the founder of Mahamevnawa Monastery arrived in Toronto for the opening of the Buddha Meditation Hall along with the maha sangha. Devotees gathered at the monastery to offer lunch dana to the venerable monks and engaged in Dhamma discussions with the most venerable Loku Swaminwahanse.
Preparation for Dhamma Hall Opening - 2019
Many devotees gathered at the monastery weeks leading up to the opening, volunteering day and night collecting invaluable merit. They prepared the meditation hall for the opening by helping with the painting, doing masonry work, landscaping, cleaning, organizing and numerous volunteer work. With their help, we were able to have an amazing opening day.

Shramadana - 2019
Devotees gathered weekly to do volunteer work at the monastery. The Dhamma hall was built by monks and the devotees of all ages.
Pirith Chanting - 2018
We had a wonderful puja followed by the Dhamma advice from a monk. Then we all got together and chanted pirith lead by Venerable monks, to evoke blessings for the new year on December 31st 2018.
Fruit Offerings to the Gauthama Buddha Stupa - Summer 2018
Devotees offered fruit baskets with many different kinds of fruits and paid homage to the sacred Gauthama Buddha stupa, led by venerable monks in a unique way. Devotees gathered around the stupa to seek blessings from the sacred Stupa.
Unity Vesak Program -2017
Mahamevnawa monastery participated in the unity Vesak program. We chanted Pirith on stage and we had a booth showcasing the monastery activities. People from many different faiths and backgrounds visited the booth and learned about Buddhism and the programs offered by the monastery.

Vesak Program 2017 - Offering a Jasmine Flower Kanchuka (Covering) to Stupa
Devotees made special cover made with Jasmine flowers to cover the sacred Stupa. The covering like this is known to be offered in Sri Lanka thousand of years ago. This is a very rare offering and first in Canada, and it was an amazing site to see the whole stupa covered with Jasmine flowers.
Vesak Program 2017 - Special Blessing Event with City Officers
City officials and counsellors from the city of Markham and York Region gathered at the monastery to seek blessings from the venerable monks. They also rejoiced by looking at the details of the new mediation hall, that is being constructed for the region and the city.

Indonesian Vesak Program 2017
A special Vesak program was held for the devotees from the Indonesian community. A day long dhamma program commenced after paying homage to the sacred stupa.
Pali Chanting Group
Venerable monks started an English pirith chanting program for the young children of the monastery. The children got the opportunity to practice and chant pirith in English and Pali.
English Meditation Class
Venerable monks launched a weekly meditation program at the monastery in English language. People from various faiths took part in this program and learned by engaging in guided meditation.
Poson Poya 2016 - Offering of Decorative cover to the Stupa
Devotees offered a beautiful hand made decorative cloth to cover the Stupa. The Cover (Kanchuka) was carried by Venerable monks and devotees with highest respect.

Volunteers decorated the stupa with lights to mark the Poson celebration. The lights were illuminated at night and the early morning on the following days to pay respect to the Supreme Buddha

A free distribution of Buddha statues was held to commemorate the Poson (June) poya day. The devotees observed 8 precepts in a outdoor hut erected on the location of the future Dhamma Hall.

2016-05-21 Unveiling of Pinnacle of the Stupa!!!
The pinnacle of the stupa was unveiled on the English Sil day at the monastery. Devotees gathered around the stupa to pay homage to the stupa and seek blessings from the venerable monks.
2016-05-14 Vesak Celebration and Event to place the sacred relics and other offerings in this stupa
Devotees paid homage to the seven supreme buddhas and decorated the monastery with lights and flags to mark the Vesak celebration for the year. Following morning a special event was held to place the sacred relics and other offerings to the newly built stupa. This event was held to commemorate the opening of the outdoor stupa to the public as well. Devotees decorated the stupa with flower garlands and built a staircase to the top of the stupa.
2016-01 - Overnight Pirith Chanting
An overnight pirith chanting was held to mark the new year. Volunteers built a stage for the venerable monks for the pirith chanting. Devotees paid homage to the supreme Buddha and chanted Pirith over night and received blessings for the new year from the venerable monks.
